Whats is the logic behind naming it as BinaryFormatter instead of BinarySerializer? [on hold]

For XML serialization, we have a class named XmlSerializer. For JSON serialization, we have DataContractJsonSerilizer but for Binary Serialization we have BinaryFormatter.

1) What is the logic behind this naming scheme?

2) Also for Json serialization, why is it not named JsonSerializer? Why is the prefix “DataContract” added to it?
